On this special edition of Newark’s Rebirth, Steve
Adubato takes an in-depth look at the history of Newark
and the efforts underway for a rebirth of New Jersey's largest
city. He is joined by historian Dr. Clement Alexander Price,
who is professor of history at Rutgers University Newark.
The program begins with a mini-documentary produced by Paula
M. Levine which chronicles the impact of the riots on the
Newark community and the transformation the city has undergone
over the past four decades. Dr. Price examines the Newark
of 1967 and how it has transformed into the Newark of today.
The one on one discussion focuses on the violence in Newark
today, particularly among Newark’s youth. The recent
execution-style murders that took place in Newark recently
became not only national, but international news when coverage
was broadcast on the BBC. This in-depth conversation with
Dr. Price explores the challenges and conditions facing Newark
in the aftermath of the Mount Vernon slayings.
