| On this installment
we examine obesity, how bad the problem is, its causes,
and what works and what doesn’t in taking the weight
off. Obesity and inactivity contribute to the risks for
some of the top killers: heart disease, cancer, stroke and
diabetes. Obesity related diseases cost the U.S economy
more than $100 billion every year. We also look at controversial
procedures such as gastric bypass. Obesity in the minority
community and why it affects them more than others, is also
discussed. We show how a complete lifestyle change and not
just dieting is what’s needed to cure the obesity
epidemic. Our panelists, which include a physician, a nutritionist,
as well as a psychologist who treats eating disorders, and
a woman who has undergone a controversial surgery, talk
about obesity as a serious but treatable disease that needs
to be addressed by New Jersey and the nation.
