Personal Stories of Addiction and Recovery

Description

This special brings together young people, parents and a certified alcohol and drug counselor to discuss early warning signs, risk factors, and how addiction affects the entire family. Family support remains a critical portion of this recovery process. The panel will also discuss how families work through this challenging process. Teens that have graduated from Daytop, an addiction treatment facility for adolescents, talk candidly about their extraordinary personal experiences with drug and alcohol and how they have fought their way back to sobriety and a drug free existence. Viewers get an intimate look at parents and their emotional struggles with guilt, shame. The panel conveys the message that drug abuse can be prevented and addiction is a treatable disease.
