| Parents
often say that you can't appreciate how a child changes
your life until you have one. Becoming a parent is such
an extraordinary experience, that it is difficult to describe
the joys, challenges and anxieties that accompany a new
baby in your life. This special half-hour edition of “Families
in Focus” serves as an opportunity for parents to
talk about how having a baby impacts every segment of your
life. The program will focus on the pleasures and satisfactions
that new parents experience, as well as the challenges of
sleep deprivation, rearranging priorities, making time for
the couple, and asking common questions new parents face.
The panel is comprised of a pediatrician, a certified doula
and mother of three, as well as the parents of a 13-month
old boy.
Tape Piece - The program begins with
a mini-documentary produced by Joanna Caplan featuring a
married, working couple Christian Borgess and Lavine Surtani
Borgess with two children Rohan age 2 1/2 and Atlas 2 months.
We address the change in lifestyle and priorities, change
in sleeping habits, financial pressures, balancing work
and family, the addition of a second child, and pressure
on the marriage. The video follows the couple through "daily
routines," including getting ready for work, cooking
dinner, etc. We also talk with Dr. Kendall Sprott, Acting
Chair of Pediatrics at UMDNJ, who provides insight into
questions that many parents have, as well as tips for maintaining
a successful, functioning household with a child. |
